Have you guys seen this book? I hadn't until I saw it posted on the gorgeous, always reliable for lots-of-good-stuff
Frankie blog. I am so excited! It looks super fantastic just like the movie and I can't wait to take a closer look.

Did you know there is also a making of book on Where the Wild Things Are? Its called, Heads On and We Shoot (cute) and folds all fancy plus has amazing behind the scenes pics. If you want to take a look there is a review video and lots of pics over here.

peacock fancy

I'm loving this colour combo and pretty peacock mini dress from clothing line Nadinoo. I'm also loving those long legs. Do you know where I can buy a pair of them?

Anywho, keeping with the love theme, I am loving Nadinoo even more after finding out all pieces are designed and handmade by Nadia Izruna. Yep, handmade. This British designer uses pretty Liberty of London prints to create small quantities of each of her designs, making for quite unique little numbers me thinks.

Nadia also has a pretty blog you can look at over
here.

I love this! How cuddly does this kitty look?!

new peeps in town

Etsy town that is!

I have had one of those weeks and am so glad to have made it to the end. Really looking forward to the weekend, catching up with old school friends and working on a fun illustration job.

Also, I promise not to turn my blog into posts all about my little shop but I didn't have another photo ready to post, I am exhausted and can not look at a computer any longer.

Happy weekend!

It is fun knitting little beards! I am working on a special order and getting some extra stock together for my shop.

crafting for haiti

Have you seen what is going on over at Craft Hope? Amazing stuff. Crafters can donate items for the Craft Hope Etsy store, anyone can purchase, you can do both if you want to and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. As I type this Craft Hope in two days, has sold well over 300 items and raised $7,000. Go you crafty good things!

There are many other crafters on Etsy doing their bit through their own stores. Just type Haiti in the Etsy search engine and away you go.

There is also a good post over here with links to other places to donate.

jen and jerry

How adorable are these two handmade art dolls, Jen and Jerry?

Made by the talented Paola Zakimi out of paper mache and other structural materials, they are so delicately painted and come with their very own hand-knitted woolen scarves. More of Paola's work can be found on Etsy at the lovely Holli Art Shop.

These two little cuties however have already been sold. If you do check out the Holli Art Shop be sure to check the sold items where there are many beautiful items to cast your eyes on.

message in a bottle

Today I want to share with you something that is a little special to me. It is a collection of found bottles (and a few other bits and bobs) that belonged to my Pa.

I don't have any actual memories of my Pa, he passed away when I was only 18 months old. I do have photo memories and I have been very lucky to read some letters he wrote to my parents when they were new to parenting with my older brother and me (we are 18 months apart). These letters contain some of the last memories and conversations my parents had with him – very special.

Sounding very lovable and extremely thoughtful Pa is someone I wish I could have gotten to know so much more! I think we would have been good pals. However. He did leave behind these bottles. A collection I've been told that started when he worked on the railway lines in Northern Victoria.

It needs a good dusting though so do excuses the cobwebs please and there has been a few new bottles added from his four sons and grandchildren since he passed.

I love these bottles.

I wonder what was special about each one and what made him pick it up and bring it home.

I wonder which was the first one to start it all.

I wonder what will happen to them all as the years pass. It will be 30 years this year since Pa passed.

I do know the one on the top shelf in the photo above - fifth in from the right was one of his favourites. Found exactly as is and probably melted in the heat of a hot summer day.

This collection is still with us for now, in one piece. But with Pa's wife, my Nana now in care there is a bit of questions as to what will be the future for all of these bottles.

my new cup

Wow talk about spoilt! I won this gorgeous cup over at Third Bird recently and it arrived yesterday. Sweet Deirdre knowing it was also my birthday recently kindly included the beautiful brooch you see above. I am loving these both! Thank you Deirdre.

If you would like to own any Third Bird items they can be found for sale over here.

girls, girls, girls

Since it has been Christmas and my birthday in a matter of weeks I have been very lucky to receive a few new books. One being the beautiful work of illustrator Tina Berning and her 100 Girls on Cheap Paper, which I have been admiring for some time. It is not new and many of you may have seen it before but for those that haven't here is a little look inside.

happy feet

images from here

Thanks for all of the very lovely birthday wishes on my last post. They gave me a really big smile just like these appropriately branded Happy Socks. Aren't they fun?

It is way too hot in Melbourne for such pretty socks right now or any socks at all!

I hope those of you in the heat are staying cool and those of you in the depths of winter have cozy, happy feet!

heidi

Today is my birthday so I thought I'd indulge a little with a picture heavy post and share a place I adore with you. Heidi. A must see if ever this way. Once home to John and Sunday Reed and affectionately named after nearby suburb Heidelberg.

My favourite thing at Heidi is the Kitchen Garden near the new home, surrounded by a cute picket fence.

This sculpture always reminds me of beehives however it is titled, Scales, by Peter Rosman 1987...? Does anyone no anymore about this piece. I should ask next time I am there.

There are many cute paths.

Including the Stein path.

The cattery by the old house is another of my favourite parts of Heidi. I like to imagine what the cats where like. Who was the boss, who was the smooch etc. A little overgrown these days perhaps...

...although even overgrown the gardens look beautiful.

The old house - Heidi I.

And the new house - Heidi II.

Happy Friday!

thank-you

A little while ago I was invited by Cecilia to participate in an fun little Artist Exchange. I have been meaning to thank everyone who sent something my way. I know I am slack, it was ages ago, but you know how it goes. Anyway thank-you all, everything is so lovely! Now I need to get me some more frames to put things in.

bags from the past

I love these two new bags I have been very lucky to have been given, both gifted from my Mum.

The little one in front Mum found for $1 at an op shop. Bargin! She actually found two, the other is a lovely light chocolaty brown which she has kept for herself.

The larger burgundy leather bag once belonged to my Nana. A cousin of hers made it! I think its my new favourite bag and is even more special knowing the history and where it came from.
Lucky me.

sewing report : disaster

As mentioned below the sewing machine was put into action yesterday. I didn't opt to do nothing although perhaps I should have given there was absolutely no sewing mojo in the air!

The pic above is a before and after. Originally a larger woman's skirt I decided to refashion into a top from a pattern I'd found online sometime ago (sorry, can't remember the link). It's too short and way too wide for me I obviously miss calculated. Due to the slipperiness of the material too I had all sorts of troubles and on top of that I ran out of bobbin cotton about three times which was, well, messing with the flow!

Anywho it's all in good practice, right?! This was the first time I'd used this pattern and since it was a refashion not a huge waste of material. Actually looking at this now I think sewing the bottom up could turn this into a green shopping bag. Now, how is that for a double re-fashion!

I also refashioned a button up shirt into the top below. Unfortunately I forgot to take a before photo. This was the first time I'd used this pattern also, I don't mind the result however I would do a few things differently next time. Like the neck band Given this was a refashion and I chose to do the neck band from the button band on the original shirt it ended up a little short and has puckered at the back which is a shame because I like the button neck band, its fun.

making and opening shop!

I have been using some of my break time (back to the reality of work VERY soon) to finish off making lots of bits and pieces I had left unfinished. With this luxury of time has come the ability to start one of my goals I had quietly set myself for 2010 - to open a handmade romance online store.

Hoorah for new beginnings! I am excited to see where this new beginning goes.

As for today I plan to get the sewing machine out and make myself some new clothes. I will let you know how I go. I seem to be a slow sewer and everything takes a lot longer than I imagine. Plus I'm on holidays still, I might just decide to do nothing!

Happy Sunday to you.

fantastic!

Yesterday we joined lots of little peeps and headed to the movies to watch Fantastic Mr. Fox, based on the book by Roald Dahl. Simply put, it is fantastic. We now have the trademark whistle of Mr. Fox in our heads, you will know what I mean if or when you see it.

Directed by Wes Anderson there is definitely a charming touch of
The Royal Tenenbaums to this.

I am fascinated by the patience and cleverness of the people who create a stop motion film such as this. Incredible.

The sources of the pics above are from little makings-of videos I found
here and here. And there is a great featurette here with comments from Roald Dahl's wife Felicity... also the name belonging to Mrs. Fox.
