Hello friends,Happy December! Exciting news!!! As of today I have a new online home. Yep, I will no longer be blogging here and while it's a little sad to be leaving after five years I've been feeling the need for change. Along with this domain shift I'll now be blogging and creating work under my own name — Evie Barrow. Why? It's simply more, me. And the fresh start leading in to 2014 Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-83923235398257860292013-11-25T08:00:00.000+11:002013-11-25T08:00:03.123+11:00softies for mirabel : handmade toy drive
I made this wonky sunshine for this years Softies For Mirabel drive. I've already shared him on my Facebook page and Instagram feed so I've included extra behind the scenes shots here just for you. The secret embroidered text on his reverse reads, Let your light shine bright.
I thought I'd share him here as a reminder to get your softie in on time if you're making one, the deadline is thisUnknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-70909837658554074032013-11-13T07:30:00.000+11:002013-11-13T07:30:01.821+11:00shy handmade boy last seen in marquise catalogue
A little while ago I was lucky enough to have my work appear in the beautiful Marquise Winter 2013 catalogue (designed by the talented lot over at Ortolan). Last week I also received the loveliest mention on the Marquise blog. You can check it out here if you want to. Marquise is a premium Australian baby wear label who last year celebrated their 80th year!

What do you make with your leftover yarn? Do you have a particular project you like to use it for? Do tell, I'd love to know.
About a year ago I made this crochet circle which admittedly I only recently finished. When I started I wasn't sure where I was going with it I just knew I wanted to use up some odd bits of yarn and practice crocheting. In the end I stitched knit fabric from a Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-14905058320658941312013-11-06T07:30:00.000+11:002013-11-06T07:30:00.078+11:00who collects stamps?
Do you collect stamps? I don't. I think one of my cousins might, at least he did when we were kids. One of the many things I love about purchasing from very small businesses is that they use stamps, unlike bills or big companies who use delivery services or have their mail prepaid. Mail from a small business is far more interesting - in more ways than one!

How quickly the seasons change. This year feels long and heavy in so many ways yet the days feel so quick and fleeting. How can that be?

Hello. This is the last of the images I'm sharing from our trip. Finally! I hear you exhale. Thanks for letting me indulge and keep a record of images here, it's been fun for me to look back. I can't believe the time that has passed, it's almost been three months since we returned to Melbourne. I feel so grateful to be able to share these images Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-63482210998623390192013-10-03T08:30:00.000+10:002013-10-03T08:30:02.051+10:00berlin : part V
Berlin's Ethnology Museum is amazing. My iPhone photos do no justice but you gotta use what you've got or the moment passes and I really wanted to share this place with you in case this is something you like too and would consider visiting. I highly recommend it. There's so much to see, my head almost exploded!

Hello! How's your week kicking off? If you're in Melbourne I hope the extreme winds haven't blown you away. It's been crazy windy here and although I'd like to have been blown back to Berlin because it's an amazing city, I'm here in Melbourne which is still a wonderful place to be.

Incredible attention to detail in this amazing embroidered applique make it impossible not to share with you. Look at those carefully hand-sewn miniature stitches, there are hundreds of them! I wish I could tell you more, other than you can find this on display at the Stasi Museum in Berlin. Grand, on time and beautifully lined with coloured subway tiles, Berlin's immaculate U-Bahn might be my favourite train service ever. Especially the delicious blue-mint tiles throughout Alexanderplatz, see for yourself here and here.

Thanks for hanging in there. I can't believe how slow I've been getting these photos up to show you. Our next and final stop was Berlin. It was our second time visiting this amazing city. We were lucky enough to have spent a couple of days here three years ago and fell in love so when the opportunity came to go again we couldn't resist. Today is my last post on Stockholm to share with you. All of these photos are from Nordiska, a museum full of Swedish trends and traditions from interiors, fashion, jewelry, toys and so much more. Too much to take-in in one visit. We didn't return for a second look this trip but if I do ever visit Stockholm again Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-65164106404784551402013-09-10T08:00:00.000+10:002013-09-10T08:00:06.510+10:00stockholm : part III
With so much to see on Djurgården, one of Stockholm's many islands we were spoiled for choice. Deciding to check out something novel to us we headed to Vasa Museum, a ship museum. Without expectation I was surprisingly blown away at how much I enjoyed our 3hrs+ checking out an old ship called, Vasa. I could've sworn I saw Captain Jack Sparrow on the second floor. Really! As mentioned in my previous post Stockholm is made up of 14 islands, we only spent time on 5 of them and my favourite was Djurgården, once a hunting ground for Sweden's King John III. Now owned by the Royal National City Park, Djurgården is home to museums, galleries, historial buildings, an amusement park, circus and beautiful lush forest. For part of our Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-14956448444619998082013-09-02T07:30:00.000+10:002013-09-02T07:30:00.472+10:00next stop : stockholm
After Amsterdam we headed to Stockholm (you may have guessed from my previous post). I didn't realise until we were in Stockholm that it was made up of 14 islands. I knew there were a few but not 14! We stayed on Södermalm which had wonderful independent stores and cafes. We walked heaps around Södermalm, through Gamla Stan (The Old Town) and where ever else we were Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-80276203325736982852013-08-30T08:00:00.000+10:002013-08-30T08:00:03.623+10:00holiday beards
If I'd per-thought this I could've snapped so many more beards during our time away. Oh well. These two will do for today. The first is from a wonderful canal bridge, lamp-post in Amsterdam and a the second from a door in Stockholm. If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you may have already seen these two but I know not all of you do, so this is for you. Have a super weekend. A quick post for today and another from Amsterdam. While waiting for our clothes to wash at a coin-laundry I noticed a quirky hand-made sign in a nearby butcher's store window and couldn't resist a quick photo with my phone. It wasn't until later I realised the reflection of my legs almost perfectly aligned with the feet!

If you're anywhere near Amsterdam and into animation or anything related to character creation you wont want to miss, Pixar: 25 Years of Animation on at Amsterdam Expo. It finishes on Sunday October 27, 2013 so you still two month to see it. The clay sculpture figures where my faves as well as seeing Pixar's Zoetrope in person. We couldn't take photos during the exhibition but I Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-31865475335222725462013-08-16T07:30:00.000+10:002013-08-16T07:30:00.673+10:00amsterdam : part III
How great is that giant wooden button sign?! Perfect for Knopenwinkel - a store full of buttons! On our last day in Amsterdam I uploaded a photo of this sign to Instagram and Giova the lovely blogger of One Bunting Away, (who lives in Amsterdam, lucky lady) got in touch. Giova has a wonderful post on her blog called, Craft Stores in Amsterdam. Amsterdam's charmingly old buildings are often tall and narrow. They're nearly always intentionally wonky. At first I thought they would soon topple forward however I learned the lean is for a reason. With steep and narrow staircases it's impossible to get large and heavy goods inside. By sloping the buildings forward and building a giant hook and pulley facing outwards at the top, big Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7215894497756315493.post-55761809056293011932013-08-12T07:30:00.000+10:002013-08-12T07:30:01.538+10:00next stop : amsterdam
Amsterdam is amazing. Charming, friendly and so much to see. We stayed in the Jordaan district where canals intersect. The sun didn't set until 11pm. Bikes! There were so many bikes gracefully swirling the city streets like an eloquently choreographed dance. Only once did we see a rider fall. And cats. Lots of big sleepy cats in shop window soaking up the warm sun. I wish I Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6
