kitty curtain

Imaging my delight when I entered a changing room and found this cute kitty curtain as the door! Cool huh? Apparently it's actually a shower curtain!

my place and yours : bedside

I missed the first week of Pip's new meme but thought I would join in at week two, hopefully I manage to continue with more. Don't look too closely at this one you will see cat fur (and most likely dust) floating about!

* Thanks for all of your sweet comments on the little clay faces below. The pic I posted was a 'before' shot for those that may have wondered. Your encouragement will hopefully get me procrastinating less and trying again much sooner! I will keep you posted.

clay faces

Some little faces I had been working on with the intention to turn them into brooches. Unfortunately when I applied varnish they smudged.

I tested both liquid and spray varnish beforehand and found the spray to have a better result. I didn't
think I sprayed enough on the test so perhaps I over compensated on these. Oh well. All part of the process I suppose. Next time I will try drawing them completely in paint and no markers to avoid any smudging at all!

little shop of handmade

I have been meaning to post about this cute little shop for such a long time. I first heard about it over on Melbourne Fashionista way back in August. This little shop is jam packed with the sweetest things from jewellery, greeting cards and baby clothes, plus everything is handmade - how neat is that!

Nothing is priced over $50 so it wont break the bank and makes it near impossible to leave empty handed! Perfect for a spot of early Christmas shopping. If you are lucky enough you will meet the stores lovely owner Bec who is super friendly, not to mention talented. Some of Bec's own creations are stocked in the shop too.

For those of you in Melbourne Little Shop of Handmade can be found in bricks and mortar fashion at 8 Woorayl Street, Carnegie. If you are elsewhere there is an online store where you can bag a goodie!

You may of heard of
Erica Domesek and her creative motto, 'I see it. I like it. I make it.' by now although in case you haven't I thought I'd share, as you may enjoy following what she is up to.

Erica posts quick tuts to inspire your own creations based on things she sees and likes.

I love the simplicity of the instructions and the feeling of just having ago
p.s.-i made this... evokes.
So many fun projects!

the quilt!

As mentioned in the below post Friday night I headed to the Abbotsford Convent to take a look at The Quilt Project which was on display as a whole for the first time.

A huge thanks to Kirst who made it a wonderful night with drinks and nibbles, many in the theme of red - very cute. As for the presentation of the 66 squares Kirsty made the most amazing giant size bed complete with sweet little bedside tables topped with red 'things'. So thoughtful and such an amazing effort! It has been such a pleasure to have been part of this project. I'd like to thank Kirsty and all who participated for making it what it was. Special.

this square from two little buttons caught my eye - so adorable!

pretty details

Have you heard of Kylie's blog 3 Sheets? If you haven't I recommend taking a look, Kylie is one clever lady, sewing, embroidering and collaging up some beautifully detailed work!

I've been following 3 Sheets with much anticipation to see what Kylie's latest experiment or creation will be and as I am a fan of brooches I've been waiting for the day she set up shop, hoping she would sell some of her brooch creations...well, the wait is over. Check out the 3 Sheets store over here!

And if all of this wasn't enough Kylie has a second blog, sissors + paper rock! ... where she shares all things beautiful in paper.

Oh and I'm very excited to be seeing this tonight!

A double rainbow in fact. Spotted on my way home tonight. The second rainbow is very faint, you can just see it to the right in this pic. And some good ol' Melbourne tram lines are in view as well.

How cute is Danny? Oh and the Boy Germs tee. So sweet!

Both are brilliantly created by Portland based creative,
Jon Knox. Danny is 100% handmade (sadly sold out) and the tee is hand screenprinted with environmentally friendly water-based inks.

Check out more of Jon's, Hello, Brute brilliance over
here and the Hello, Brute blog is here too.

semi-permanent

I've spent the past two days attending the Semi-Permanent design conference here in Melbourne. The speakers were all really diverse and had such wonderful stories to tell. The highlight for me was husband and wife photography team, Jeremy and Claire Weiss (pictured above).

Claire told of their very early days when Jeremy worked in a skate store and Claire at age 16 would hang out in the store trying to get his attention. Jeremy would carry his photos around in a tattered box showing them to whoever would listen. With no real plan for their future they were all for the journey and living in the moment more than the desire of the final destination. One thing was for sure they followed their hearts and I'm sure most of the audience was left felling inspired to be doing the same.

Tara McPherson and Jeff Soto included sketches and progress work which I was really happy to see. Alex from Industrial Light and Magic shared nostalgic images from the companies early days, with a young Steven Spielberg and ET clay models making an appearance. Lifelounge, local boy Luke Lucas and his incredible type, styled in photoshop blew my mind on day one and Keith Schofield had us all chuckling along with his The BPA and Diesel work!

belongings

I thought I would share this pretty teacup and saucer with you. Isn't it sweet? It's from my Nana, she gave one from her collection to each of her granddaughters recently as she moved into a care home and seriously downsized her belongings. This must be a hard time to go through - having to give up most of the possessions one acquires during a lifetime, hanging on only to those that are truly sentimental or needed on a practical level.

eco cleaning update

Some of you may be aware of my current Happy Planet Challenge - creating and using more environmentally friendly cleaning products around our home. So far I give two thumbs up to a 50% water, 50% white vinegar mix as a window/glass cleaner!

Our rented apartment has shiny metal light coverings that are impossible to keep fingerprint free as they show up every single one, I would put the previously used window/glass cleaner to good use on these so the fact that the 50/50 concoction is doing the same job, plus did a fine job on some windows is keeping me happy and inspired to continue down this path.

As for the all-purpose cleaner I've made it seems to be working ok but I'm not sure it's as good at this point. I've been told (actually I think I read it somewhere) it's the vinegar that cuts through grease so I think I'll keep trying with the mix to see if it can be improved.

Bicarb pretty much cleans everything! And with water added as a paste you have a cream cleanser. Really what can't it clean? Both ceramic and metal sinks have come up a treat with a bit of bicarb paste.

This weekend if time permits I'll be trying out a floor cleaning concoction! But for the next two days I will be attending
Semi-Permanent. I can't wait. I'm charged and hoping to end both days full of creative inspiration and lots of motivational energy!

in progress

A little something/someone I am working on possibly for this...

If you like you can take a peek at what I made in 2007 and 2008 for the same project.

And if you would like to join in there is more information over here.

tote in style

image from here

I know there are so many gorgeous totes around these days that make going plastic free a super stylin' breeze but have you seen this lovely illustrated tote by Anke Weckmann? Available from her etsy and Dawanda stores, at $10USD it won't hurt the Aussie hip pocket too much at the moment either!

super good parcels & places

A little parcel had been waiting for me at the post office last week and I finally got to pick it up yesterday. Knowing it was coming all the way from Spain I'd been anticipating it's arrival for the past couple of weeks. I certainly was not disappointed! This friendly little ghost necklace, lovingly handmade by the very talented Eva Monleón was package ever so sweetly. No part of the packaging was forgotten. Eva's thoughtful attention to detail truly made this purchase a special experience. This little sweetie is most certainly already loved in her new home!

Eva's blog is Misako Mimoko and her etsy store of the same name can be found here.

I hope you've had a fantastic weekend! Here are some super good places I visited online in the past week, I thought you might like them too if you haven't already been.

finished with that newspaper?

image from here

Who knew you could make yarn from newspaper? I certainly didn't.

Looks great! Not sure I'd have the patience or the time...and perhaps lacking some skill and a newspaper stash.

Found via greenupgrader which has heaps of interesting posts! Truck Farm anyone?

vest to impress

Can you see it? Squint and you might. It's worth it!

The lapel on this gorgeous vest from Karla Spetic is actually a very subtle, beautifully tailored twin face. And at $700 + this beauty is just for looking!
