I am loving the beautiful clothes from Emma Fletcher's label Lyell.
The rich colours in the photos from the latest look book are just divine, I want to jump right in and explore the environment in each one, not to mention the clothes...for now though, I'll keep dreaming!
Today was such a beautiful day here in Melbourne, I couldn't resist a stroll around the streets at lunch time. Luckily I had my camera in my bag so I could capture some of the great things I saw. I'm especially loving the house numbers cut from tin and stapled to the wooden fence!

I thought I'd share one of my favorite brooches with you. It was a Christmas present a couple of years ago from the other half so I guess it also has special sentimental value too.
I wore it today and didn't realise until I took him off that it looked as though Mr Giraffe was tucking in to the flower pattern on my dress, with his long neck twisting around like that! Cute.
The brooch is from the talented Beci Orpin of Princess Tina fame.
A little update on the knitted vest from this post.
It's almost done... stitching together, finishing edges and finding the perfect button is all that's left - YAY! I'm happy with it so far, it's nice and chunky and will be just perfect for those cool spring mornings.
One thing I'm a little unsure of though, is how I'm going to finish it... I'm a bit of an amateur you see and love just having a go, the thing that's got me is the edging on the pattern its something I've never tried before so we shall see!
I'll post again when complete to let you know.
Hmm... this strawberry is the size of my palm. Freakish. Cool. Perfect for breakfast!
Things have been pretty quiet around here the past few days, I have been struck by a very persistent cold so there has been much bed rest and little else.
Today though, I managed to apply the finishing touches to this pretty pirate's new pirate friend!
Making a second pirate was a real challenge as the first one I made up thinking it would be a one off for Softies for Mirabel. Kindly though one of the lovely ladies at Mirabel liked my pirate enough to request one of her very own (well, it's actually for her young son). So, tomorrow this guy will be off to his new home. I hope they like him!
My Julia Pott wrapping paper arrived in the mail the other day, I absolutely adore her work so this made my day a whole lot brighter. I don't think I'll actually use the wrapping paper as wrapping paper - well not all of it at least, some shall be framed and then the remainder possibly used on a special present... we'll see!
If you haven't heard of Julia I highly recommend checking out her 'My First Crush' animation it's a very sweet piece... or any of her work for that matter its all worth a look. Your could also check out this Handmade Portraits interview by etsy if you want to find out a bit more about this talented young lady!
Some gorgeous pieces I found over at tigerluxe's etsy store. Worth a look for cute little vintage finds. How awesome is the owl teapot!
Not much crafting time this week... apart from Brown Owls Monday night (see previous post). So, in the meantime I thought I'd share with you a little brooch I made a while ago.
This little lady is an experiment or a trial you could say for a few ideas I have itching to get further than sketches and on their merry way (Oh why are there not enough hours in the day?). She doesn't quite lie flat when pined to you - something I'm looking to improve but I think she turned out ok for a first go! I'm loving her little pink cheeks.
She is made from calico, hand embroidered and painted on the front, stitched together by machine and hand, stuffed with poly-fill and has a little brooch back stitched to the reverse.

Last night at Brown Owls was super printing fun! Lots of mess was made (mostly all over my hands and clothes - woops) and there was even some wonk in my efforts - a very ace night by far!
Gemma lead the owlets through their printing paces with genius tools on hand from the endlessly talented Kristy and ever happy cheer from Pip at the side lines.
I reckon everyone had really great time. I even scored a luck dip prize!
And can you imagine how chuffed I was when I saw who was on the cute little owls for the night...
photo: cocoondesigns Some incredibly imaginative and wondrously colourful hand-stitched softie creations from Cocoon Designs's etsy store. Each creation is lovingly made mostly from vintage and recycled materials. You can see more over here too.
I have no idea where I have been for the past couple of decades (perhaps under a fraggle rock - sorry I couldn't resist... terrible, I know!) on Friday night I finally got around to watching the Labyrinth. I don't know why I haven't watched this before now as I love a magical world full of magical creatures and I'm so glad I did. I certainly wasn't disappointed!
The DVD version I watched even had a making of documentary with beautiful behind the scenes and early concept drawings to drool over!
All this Jim Henson wonder spark a memory of something I'd seen about Muppets at acmi here in Melbourne. I had no idea if it had been and gone so after some quick investigation I found out that it was indeed still on and will be on until 14th September. There are Muppet movies, The Dark Crystal, Muppet history and more, plus rare and experimental works being screened.
I was lucky enough to catch Commercials and Experiments, a collection of short films and crazy commercials from the 60's (when Henson was still in college) featuring Muppet characters. The things they got away with showing on TV back then - brilliant!
I finally finished the scarf I mentioned earlier which will be off to its new home tomorrow. Yay! I hope it arrives safely.
There is one more knitting project on the list ...for now anyway. This ones for me - a chunky cream vest. I had every intention of knitting it during winter but hey, better late than never right. Plus, knowing Melbourne's weather there are bound to be a few more Wintery days ahead.
8am Monday + giant nail + half flat tyre + $$$ = not the best start to the week!! No?
Had the day continued in the same manner in which it started I might been in a right ol’ mess by now but alas, it could only get better.
On my walk to pick up my car I found these gorgeous, tiny, dried pink berry things. I'm not sure what they are but I sure do like the look of them!
And... when I got back to my desk this book I ordered a few weeks back had arrived. I can’t wait to take a closer look.
Plus the radio is playing Vampire Weekend live tonight - a current fav on high rotation in earlier mentioned car!
So, all in all it wasn’t such a bad day after all!
