overheard

The following was overheard between a lady and a little girl this week while walking in to work one morning. Everything the little girl said was in a very matter-of-fact voice.

L: When
you were a fairy?

LG: Yeah.

L: When were you a fairy?

LG:
In the olden days.

L: What... before you were born?

LG: Yeah.

L: What colour did you wear? No. Wait. Let me guess.

I wanted to follow to see where this story went but I was already late as it was.

leaves and twigs

More Donna! I just found out after my last post that Donna Wilson now also has a blog - Leaves and Twigs. Which is where I spotted these super cute pics.

AND the new DW 09/10 catalogue is now available to download.

I'm loving the little Beards Nest lavender bag, for obvious reasons but there are so many other goodies in there!

oh yeah, you know you're foxy

images from the future project

I really like these, yes I do! Donna Wilson's work always makes me feel happy. I especially love her crazy critters!

You may remember this kitty I made for my one year blogging giveaway.
Hopefully I will find time this year to make some more creatures from this fabulous book.

donate life

my big bro and i, very early 80's. possibly still livin' in the 70's!

Did you know this week, in Australia, is Organ Donation Awareness Week?

Yes. No.

Yep, well it is, and its a good reminder for us to chat to our loved ones about what our wishes regarding organ and tissue donation might be. Have you thought about this? Not the prettiest of things to think about I know.

Did you know in 2009, less than half the demand for organs was able to be met*?

Did you also know that in 2009, 247 organ donors gave 799 Australians a new chance in life*?! Pretty amazing huh.

As at 4 January 2010, 1,310 people in Australia are waiting for a kidney transplant.*
One of those people is my older brother. So yep, this subject is a close to home for my family. Luckily we are part of the lucky half and just last week found out after many, many months of tests my Dad will be able to give one of his kidneys to my brother. YAY! Still a long road ahead but yay all the same.

You can read a little about the two of them over here if you like.

To sign up to go on the Australian Organ Donor Register head over here.

i like rainy days

I was lucky enough to recently be gifted this gorgeous, wooden, brolli brooch from the Little Miso label which is by multi-talented, Perth based, Janice Law. Not only is Janice busy creating cute pieces of jewellery, which can be found here, she is also an illustrator and designer. Wowzers! Someone is pouring with talent.

lots of handmade goodies

first two pics from here

Yes, lots of handmade goodies can be found at the lovely Mandrake & Willow store located at 66 Anderson Street, Yarraville. There is also a beautiful selection of vintage clothing as well as organic, recycled and fairtrade items to be found.

Mandrake & Willow also stock work by the lovely and ever so talented
Dawn Tan of Handmade Love and now I can happily say they are also stockists of the above few Handmade Romance items. Yay!

HR in frankie

Very exciting news. I am in this issue of Frankie magazine. Yippee!

I know. A lot of you will already have the latest Frankie in your hot little hands and I am a bit slow to post this week, things have been busy and the week slipped by before I knew it but, I still have to share.

Frankie is my favourite mag so I was in complete shock when the lovely ladies at Frankie first contacted me. I even looked over my shoulder to see if I was being punked! But alas I was not and there I am, well not me exactly but one of my little bearded blokes. This gave me a giggle to see and I am very honored to be amongst the wonderful pages of Frankie. So thank you Frankie team for putting me there.

I hope you have had a good week. And a big thank-you to everyone who has left me a message, they have all brightened my somewhat stressful days.

swimming pretty

I love this image from Wren clothing's homepage. The checkers and top hat combo are very Alice in Wonderland don't you think? And look at the little girls peeking through the legs in the middle. I wonder what the story is behind this image.

sharing the love

I know not everyone celebrate Valentine's Day with dozens of roses and chocolates. We do things pretty low key around here too but I like to think today is a day to think of all the people we love whether its a partner, husband, crush, children, friends, parents, grandparent, whomever you hold special in your heart, perhaps even your good self!

I hope you all have a lovely day.

You may have seen these already, Joanna from Pretty Random Objects has been this weeks Featured Seller over on Etsy but I couldn't resist posting them here. How cute are they?!

chinny style

I really like fashion, although those who know me might think differently... I don't spend lots of money on clothes (various reasons) and I never seem to find the time to make shopping for them a big priority in my life either but, I do really like fashion. Well I guess I don't love it as much as some but I like it a lot and I really love textiles and interesting, well constructed clothes.

Someone I have always loved to watch because of her exciting fashion sense is SBS newsreader Lee Lin Chin. I love Chin's wondrous outfits, she kicks it over any other newsreader on our screens. I love that she doesn't play it safe with her choices!

Oh, how I wish Fashionista ran for longer but I'm pretty happy Chin is back hosting the current Designer People series, which means more fabulous outfits.

Finding this blog completely made my day.

this is paris

I know many of you are familiar with M.Sasek's wonderfully illustrated, This Is series but I thought I would share a couple of snippets from This Is Paris which I was lucky enough to be gifted at Christmas. It is to remind me of our time here...

I now wish I'd paid more attention to the light posts as I don't recall seeing one with a letterbox.

This could very well be me in many years to come, so long as she doesn't fly on that broomstick!

Gorgeous. I love this little black kitty crossing the path of all of those beautiful Parisian street lights. This city is certainly one of lights.

Nice hidden detail on the inside of the back cover under the jacket.

sneak peek

Along with returning
to full-time work after Christmas with a vengeance, opening my online shop and getting my first stockist, I have also been working on a fun illustration project. The project is still ongoing so I can't show you too much for now but thought I'd share some out-takes.

It is fair to say January has been a crazy busy month, in a good way though. I hope you've had a fabulous month too. Heres to February being just as exciting!

meet handmade romance at mike's

I am pretty excited to say I delivered a few little items to Meet Me at Mike's store in Fitzroy yesterday, so if you are in Melbourne or going to be visiting Melbourne any time soon and want to get your hands on one of my brooches or any of the other lovely goodies stocked at Mike's, stop on by!

Mike's is open Tuesday - Saturday, location and hours can be found here.

retro wild things

Original 80's Where the Wild Things Are plushies, Bernard and Sipi found over at The Dapper Appple's Etsy store. Pretty neat!

This same style has been remade since the Where the Wild Things Are movie but there are some very slight facial differences. Can you spot them?

Update: The difference I found on Bernard were the way the lines are drawn around his nose and cheeks. With Sipi Christina and Jess from Teddy Bear's Wednesday nailed it, blue forehead and different nose. Thanks for playing along!
