sunny cannes and island monks

As mentioned in my previous post I'm a long way from home. The past few days were spent in Cannes, France. A surreal place to me with it's glittering wealth, endless loud noise, fast cars, mega yachts, all white attire, next to no attire, celebrities, celebrities wannabes, slow service, leathery tans, neon lights and the rest is a sensory blur! Feeling completely out of place I searched for calmer moments. I do wonder what this town would be like if it weren't in the middle of a festival that attracts 12,000 visitors. The uninterrupted blue summer sky and matching sea were incredible. The first two photos above are central Cannes, the next four are views from the beautiful old-town, La Suquet which sits upon a hill overlooking the city center. The remaining images from an afternoon spent on a turn-of-the-century wooden yacht that made it's way towards Île Saint-Honorat, a small island thats been home to a community of monks since the fifth century. A serene and peaceful place I envisaged staying for an eternity.

Oh! How I miss the sunshine! That sandstone castle/fort/church? on the water's edge is just, wow. Isn't the world so wonderfully diverse and amazing. Happy travels, Evie. Belinda xx
