my place and yours : secret weapon

Friday night I was at a VERY loud gig. So loud, for the first time during a gig I was standing there thinking how great it would be to bring earplugs next time. Ok. So I've contemplated earplugs before but the seriousness of my thought this time had me thinking it was definitely a sign of my age. Boy how age creeps up on you! Like around the time I was 28 I woke up one morning and BAM! Wrinkles! Where did my 20's go? Why do the years just get faster and faster and it seems there's more and more to do? Anywho one consistency in my life is a love of music, I couldn't live without it.

I find music calming when I'm chaotic, uplifting when I'm down, comforting when I'm sad or alone. No matter what my mood, there's music to get me through. When I create there are always tunes playing. I remember during my school years I couldn't study unless music was playing. Silence was so distracting. Something my Mum never really understood. There would be calls through my bedroom door, "How can you get any study done with all that noise?" These days I don't find silence distracting (more like rare) but still I reach for the nearest item to play music!

So for My Place and Yours; Secret Weapon theme this week I'm going to say music. Followed closely by pencil and paper!

NB: Playing right now is the much quieter tunes (than Friday night) of the beautiful Sarah Blasko!

Music also helps me to get into the creative swing. Although it may seem unlikely to some, music in our environment makes it easier to work. Even rock music can be a somewhat meditative.

Yes you gotta love music. I told my 16 yo to take ear plugs with him when he went to see an all ages show yesterday. I was shot down with one of those 'as if' stares. hmm

Music is super important, I think, too. I'm listening to Richard Hawley as I type this and he is really cool and croony. You might like him too, evie. You might. xx
