It took a while to decide what we actually wanted from our wedding day. We did know however our day would not follow a traditional path. I'd always liked the idea of eloping to Vegas to get married by a fat Elvis. I'm not the biggest Elvis fan, we do share the same birthday however (which was yesterday!). I think I just liked the irony of a serious commitment in a somewhat comical environment. Who knows. My mind works in mysterious ways, even to me. Anyway that was not to be. The husband on the other hand was happy for a party with friends and family. Both of our initial thoughts were very non-traditional and low-key.
Eloping sounded great (to me) but given we live in the land of Oz and are quite isolated there was going to be a lot of organising and I knew deep down that I wanted at least my closest family and friends to share in this day. Also knowing that not all of them could afford the plane ticket to Vegas.
Our compromise or mash of these two ideas was to get married at the Registry Office in the Old Treasury Building here in Melbourne (and if we weren't from Melbourne it would almost be like eloping), witnessed by our close family and friends and then to take them all out for dinner. So we did.
And dinner was at one of our favourite Spanish restaurants. If you can remember we got engaged in Spain, so we felt this was a perfect fit. We had the most fabulous day, rain included. And it's true what they say, that it goes so quickly!
