window shopping

I spotted this in the window of a local op-shop recently. It was shut at the time otherwise I'm sure this would have come home with me... much to my partners horror! How many granny-squares can a small flat have?!

sweater characters

Saturday morning I headed into Craft Victoria for my Craft Cubed workshop. Above are some of the pics I took. There were so many stripes! I loved it. Thank-you everyone who came, you made my morning and I adored seeing all of your characters lined-up at the end.

ancient pocket

This totally awesome, one-of-a-kind necklace is handmade by Vanessa from Ancient Pocket, it forms part of the latest and almost sold-out collection curated by Jennifer for her label Ermie. Oh how I dream of someday owning one of Jennifer's beautiful dresses, perfect for the warmer Australian weather that will soon (hopefully) be upon us! Yay for these two creative ladies! And yay it's Friday! Happy weekend peoples.

saturday workshop

A little reminder that this Saturday morning I will be hosting a 2 hour workshop, Craft Your Own Sweater Character at Craft Victoria. I'd love to see you there! Oh and I'll be wearing my newly crafted sweater-bear-brooch above.

Edit: I just found out there is only one spot remaining! Yay! Hurry!

cubed sandwich

I feel lucky this year to be able to attend Craft Cubed events, in Melbourne, that run during work hours. Unfortunately this is mostly because I was made redundant from my full-time job a couple of months ago (not so lucky). However now that I am freelancing, last Friday, I was able to attend a Hello Sandwich workshop! What an absolute lovely way to spend a morning. The gorgeous Ebony spoiled us with bundles of assorted papery goods and the most gorgeous MT tapes (see aftermath in last pic). The main challenge of the morning was knowing when to stop!!!

ena and albert

Like a giant cross-stitch this decorated pegboard makes a colourful backdrop to Etsy store, Ena & Albert's product photography. Clever huh?! Made by Therese from Ena & Albert this wall has so many possibilities — I love it. Do you have any creative pegboard ideas? I found a couple here and here

Well guys that wraps-up this stitchy week. Have a wonderful weekend x

meet paul and luke!

To wrap-up the Needle Work / Needle Play posts let me introduce you to my work for the show; Paul and Luke, twin brothers and avid sweater collectors inspired by, Melbourne's wintery weather! All design, pattern and colour selections were hand sketched and the rest mostly stitched and embroidered by hand with a little machine sewing along some seams. Each character took around 40 hours to complete. Stupidly, the blurry phone pic at the top was the only shot I got of them once they were complete — while we were setting up no less. Luckily (for me) however I've decided not to part with them for now and will be able to take a much clearer photo once the exhibition comes down.

On here until 23rd August.

needle play

A couple of pics from Friday when we were setting up the Needle Work / Needle Play exhibition. I didn't get many and the ones I did get were with my phone so they're not great. Plus I didn't manage to capture everyone's work. All the more reason for you to check it out in person. Hehe!
Top left: The unmistakable work of Cat-Rabbit who created the most adorable squishy-faced cat accompanied by an embroidered portrait. Top right: Carly and Emma set up MaricorMaricar's work. Al Munro's pieces are already hanging behind them and Carly's deer is sitting pretty on the mantle in the foreground. Bottom left: Meticulously made superhero boots by EmmaBottom right: Just two of the eight finely-detailed animal kingdom necklaces created by Gemma! The necklace featuring the bear's head lifts up to reveal a charming girls face.

needle work

This morning we are setting up, Needle Work / Needle Play ready for tonight's opening. If you are coming, see you there! In the meantime above are work-in-progress pics of my pieces.

Happy Friday x

needle work / needle play

Needle Work / Needle Play is almost here! The opening is this Friday night. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. Most of all it is an honour to be able to participate in a group show with a wonderful bunch of female creatives.

More details on the show and everyone participating can be seen on the Needle Work / Needle Play blog — see here.

If you are in Melbourne town this Friday and would like to come along we'd love to see you there! I'd also like to shout out a huge thank you to Carly, the mastermind behind organising the show — you have been amazing.

Oh, and for an extra treat head on over here for a furry sneak-peek of Cat-Rabbit's piece. Oh my!

handmade goodies

Gee, where have the past few days gone? It's been quiet here huh? And it's now August, how did that happen?! To break the silence here are three of my favourite colourful and patterned handmade items of late.
